How To Select A Transformer
Many of our designs are industry standards with cross ref to other manufacturers part numbers. If you are starting with a new application, here are the things you need to decide when selecting: If you are starting with and existing design see our cross reference search engine.
  1. Input & Output Voltage(s), Frequency, Current.

  2. Safety Agency certification requirements. UL, CSA, CE requirements vary from one application to another. As an example, Medical products have very different requirements than a product to be used in office products. You should try to know which specific agency standard you are trying to meet.

  3. Mounting configuration needs to be decided. The obvious choices PC mount or Chassis mount. Our application engineers can offer a number of other options to meet your special requirements.

  4. Available area is sometimes very limited. If this is true in your configuration be ready to specify Height, Length, & Width limits.

  5. Number of configurations Vs's cost & inventory goals deserves some thought. If for instance 90% of your product shipments are going to the United States, you may not want to have just one design to serve US and Foreign voltage/agency requirements since the 10% foreign applications may add 20% to the cost of the 90% United States group.

Our experienced design engineers are ready to discuss all of the above issues to help you select the best product whether it be a standard catalogue design or a custom design to fulfill your application`s goals. If you need a custom design we do our best to utilize components that are used in our standard line to ensure ready availability and minimum cost.
